A couple of Trumpet Flowers sprouted up in the yard and grew to enormous sizes. The blooms come to fruition within a day but seem to open before your eyes. I was intrigued and had to watch one open. The resulting video is a time lapse Lumiere.

Toronto City Workers Strike
Toronto is now at the end of a month long city worker strike that has seen temporary garbage dumps in many of the city parks and outdoor arenas. These garbage dumps sit on the top of city storm sewers and with the heavy rains the city has experienced over the last couple of weeks,
these piles are now leaching any number of horrible substances into the water system. The good citizens of Toronto and elsewhere are taking advantage and dumping everything they can to avoid dumping fees and the city garbage collection limits. What a mess!

Beauty eh
We live in a world where we take everything for granted and don't see the beauty in the mundane. We need to open our eyes and see that everything is miraculously beautiful. Even a plastic bag hopelessly stuck in a tree."It was one of those days when it's a minute away from raining. There's this electricity in the air, you can almost hear it. And this bag was just... calling to me. Like a little kid begging me to play with it. That's when I realized there was this entire life behind things, and this incredibly benevolent force that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid ever.
Video's a poor excuse, I know. But it helps me remember... I need to remember. Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it... and my heart is going to cave in."
Video's a poor excuse, I know. But it helps me remember... I need to remember. Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it... and my heart is going to cave in."
I watched this bag stuck in a tree in my neighbourhood for two weeks, until rain and wind beat the crap out of it and the foliage of the tree consumed it. Every time that I looked, the music from the plastic bag scene in American Beauty ran through my head. Instead of a bag dancing freely in the wind, this bag struggles for freedom. I’m sure that’s a metaphor for something.

It's Cold

The temperature is somewhere in the region of -20 °C in Southern Ontario at the moment. With the wind chill it is much colder. Did I mention that I am not a winter person. If hibernation was an option right now, that is what I would be doing.
